A beautiful carving in stone of the Mallard, a steam train in a landscape that is coming towards the viewer. Stylised steam is projected from the top of the train and there is a bridge and trees in the background By a Sheffield Stone Mason Steve Roche

ABBEYDALE LOCOMOTIVES

These carvings are based on art deco travel posters with a sharp vanishing point. The corners are curved to look like train carriage windows.

All but one of these are engines that have pulled the Master Cutler service from Sheffield to London over the years.

The carvings are cut in deep relief to give the sensation of movement when the viewer walks or drives past.
