LETTER CARVING & MEMORIALS

After starting to specialise as a Letter Carver, I quickly realised that the inscriptions I can carve can only be as good as the ones I can draw. This led to studying calligraphy and in 2018 I completed the three year Advanced Training Scheme run by the Society of Scribes and Illuminators. This course gave me the confidence to apply an interpretive calligraphic approach to my projects.

All of my work starts with a hand-drawn design. I use traditional letter carving techniques with mallet and chisel to cut the inscriptions.

The memorials I design and produce are all completely individual to the person being remembered. The stone choice itself can be significant, I tend to use monumental quality stone native to the UK.
